As opposed to the female hourglass figure, the ideal male body is said to have a V-shaped figure with a broader upper torso, trim waist, and minimal fat in the lower body area. For transmen, the main challenge in achieving this figure is the fat distribution in their hip and thighs. Most doctors suggest trans males follow diets and heavy-weight exercises to build up muscle and lose excess fat. But the localized fat around certain parts such as the hips, legs, and buttocks does not respond to diet and exercise alone as it is a consequence of a hormone response.
The female body is dominated by estrogen hormones which cause fat to accumulate in their hips, thighs, and buttocks. In contrast, the male body produces more testosterone hormone, which forces it to store fat in the middle of the body, around the waist and abdomen.
Hence, diet and exercise alone cannot help a trans male to achieve the ideal male figure. This is where our liposuction-based Body masculinization surgery (BMS) helps.
How Is The Female to Male Body Masculinization Surgery Performed?
BMS is a safe method to remove fat from their lower body using the liposuction procedure. Liposuction utilizes a minimally invasive thin rod-like tool that is vibrated with high-frequency ultrasound waves.
It is a preferred procedure for a female-to-male body transition to achieve an ideal waist-to-hip ratio. It specifically targets the flanks, inner and outer thighs, upper body, chest, back, and buttocks. This procedure aims to reduce the hourglass figure and bring it as close as possible to the V-shaped male figure.
Liposuction is usually performed under local anesthesia. First, the surgeon marks the target areas of your body to make tiny incisions and carefully passes a surgical cannula through these incisions. The liposuction tool is inserted into the cannula and positioned between the fat layers. As the ultrasound waves pass through the rod, it vibrates the fat layers and liquifies them.
Finally, a ‘negative pressure’ suction pump is used to suck the liquified fat upwards through an outlet.
The incisions will be closed with sutures with or without the placement of drain tubes to remove and liquid build-up. The surgeon will then wrap the treated area with tight compression garments, which will help reduce swelling and aid in the overall healing process.
What To Expect When Recovering From Your Female to Male Body Masculinization Surgery?
You will be allowed to return home the same day. You will still need someone to drive you home and help you with household chores for some time.
You are encouraged to take short and slow walks to prevent certain complications, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks, as suggested by the surgeon.
Since the procedure is highly personalized to suit every trans male’s body, the recovery time will also vary accordingly. Dr. Sanghvi will guide you in every step of your recovery period during your follow-up appointments.
